Start Code celebrated its second anniversary this week.
We’re two years old! It’s hard to believe that it has been two years since we held our first class with a group of adventurous middle school students ready to begin coding.
Our second year was filled with exciting new developments. We held our first robotics lab in the fall and have now added Arduino to the class schedule. We launched our coding summer camp program last year and it was successful beyond our expectations. The facilities and school grounds were great and the kids were enthusiastic about the final competitions and presentations at all the camps.
We added app development to our curriculum with two wonderful programming tools, App Inventor and Corona. Corona is especially powerful because it uses the easy to understand Lua programming language and the kids can code cross-platform apps for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 8. We added another elementary programming lab for the younger students and lastly we launched our new website just a week ago. You are looking at the results and we are thrilled with the new look and capabilities that it gives us (thanks to Kim Kirby for a wonderful web design).
That’s a lot in a year but we’re just getting started. We have exciting news coming up this summer so stay tuned. Our third year is going to be the best yet.
